How to Write a Government Job CV and Application Letter That Gets You Shortlisted
The exact format, content and mistakes to avoid when applying for BCS, bank and government jobs in Bangladesh.
📄
Your CV and application letter are the first impression you make on a government recruitment board. A poorly formatted CV gets you eliminated before your qualifications are even read. This guide shows you the exact format expected by BPSC, Bangladesh Bank and state-owned enterprises — and the common mistakes that disqualify otherwise strong candidates.
📋 Government Job CV: Mandatory Sections
Section 1
Personal Information. Full name (as per NID), father's name, mother's name, date of birth, NID number, permanent address, present address, mobile number, email. Use exactly the same name spelling as your academic certificates — discrepancies delay the process.
Section 2
Academic Qualifications (reverse chronological). Masters → Honours → HSC → SSC. Include: exam name, board/university, year of passing, division/CGPA, subject. Do not omit any exam — gaps raise red flags at the viva.
Section 3
Professional Experience (if any). Organisation name, designation, duration (month/year to month/year), key responsibilities in 2–3 bullet points. Use action verbs: managed, coordinated, analysed, implemented. Avoid passive descriptions.
Section 4
Skills and Training. Computer skills (MS Office, specific software), language proficiency (Bangla, English — mention any certificates), relevant training courses with issuing organisation and year. Keep this factual — examiners verify skills at viva.
Section 5
References. Two references: one academic (professor or thesis supervisor) and one professional or community (if no work experience, a respected community member). Include: name, designation, organisation, mobile, email. Always inform your referees before listing them.
